Avonna Starck for Fridley School Board
Who is Avonna?
I’m a mom and community advocate.
When my son started kindergarten, I was lucky enough to open enroll him at Stevenson Elementary School. We knew immediately that Fridley’s all day kindergarten program would give Dylan the foundation he needed for a successful education. As a Fridley parent and public policy professional, I was given the ability to volunteer with the Fridley school referendum campaign. I am a member of the Fridley Middle School parent advisory group and a Tiger baseball, wrestling, and football mom.
When Dylan’s entered middle school, I recognized that not all students share the same opportunity to participate in the school’s biannual east coast trip. I organized a large group of parents and designed an annual fundraising plan. Our group, Fridley TRIP, built partnerships between students, parents, community leaders, legislative leaders, police, and fire. This last March we came together with the Taste of Fridley gala and raised more than $10,000 for the pilot project. We came together to raise funds for a specific purpose – giving ALL students a life-altering experience. And the success we saw has grown into a relationship with the Fridley Schools Foundation and a new goal of raising funds for students in economic need. This project is important to me because I believe that each and every student deserves the same access to opportunities. The experience of seeing our nation’s history and culture in Washington DC and New York City might just be what one Fridley student needs to be inspired to reach for more.
Fridley schools have served our family well, and now I seek to offer the same in return. Our school board is known for working collaboratively together on behalf of our students. It is important to me that our board reflects our community’s values of putting our students first and I look forward to joining such a productive and inclusive team. I ask that you help me to support all Fridley students in shooting for the stars!

We won’t be getting lawn signs out for several weeks, but it’s never to early to ask for one.
